Born in Westerly, he was the son of the late Paolo and Bomina Piccolo. His beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret, passed away last year.

Tony was a proud member of the WHS Class of 1948 where he was a standout baseball and basketball player and was part of the 1948 State Championship basketball team known as the “Swish Kids”. His love of sports continued after high school and eventually evolved into umpiring Westerly town men’s and women’s softball leagues and refereeing basketball. As a fan, he avidly followed the Detroit Tigers, Boston Celtics and PC Friars as well as his grandchildren’s scholastic sports careers.

Along with Chief Azzinaro and William Wilcox, Tony organized semi-annual bus trips to Atlantic City for more than 25 years. He also enjoyed greyhound racing.

As a meticulous gardener he was known for his cultivation of Big Boy tomatoes and growing peppers that were never hot enough.

A Veteran of the US Army, Tony earned an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Johnson & Wales University on the GI Bill. He was employed for more than 40 years at Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics.

He is survived by sons, Anthony, Jr. and Patrick; daughter-in-law Mary; grandchildren, Eric and Jena; and siblings Helen Corina, Tom Piccolo and Julia Wilcox.
Besides his wife Margaret, Tony was also predeceased by his brothers, Joe and Tomaso; and sisters, Minnie Nadeau, Mary Aiello, Angie Vita and Pauline Levcowich.

Tony’s family would like to thank family, friends and neighbors for their support, with special thanks to sister-in-law Patricia Terranova, friend and neighbor Bruce Luther, Dr. Brandon Luk and staff, and Hope Hospice.
