Obituary for Mary L. Ventresca (Cugini)

Mary L. Ventresca (Cugini)
Mary Cugini Ventresca of Westerly passed away on August 15, 2016 the age of 90. She was the daughter of the late Gerardo and Lucy Cugini. Mary was the devoted wife of the late Tarquinio "Tom" Ventresca.

As a lifelong resident of Westerly, Mary was proud to have been one of the first babies born in the Westerly Hospital.

She was the owner and operator of Mrs. V's Kitchen, aptly named as Mary's wit and warmth made every customer feel as if they were stopping by a friend's home for dinner.

Mary was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, celebrating a holiday or birthday. Tables would be laden with home-cooked food, the house overflowing with people and laughter and at the center of it all was Mary, the very heart and soul of her family.

She was a friend and confidant to many, always willing to listen, support and assist whenever she could. Mary took an interest in everyone, always helping others, never expecting anything in return. She was a woman of great faith, generosity of spirit and unending kindness.

She adored her eleven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and they are all so blessed to have had her in their lives.

She will be dearly missed by her three sons: Gerard and wife Debbie of Westerly, Thomas and wife Sheila of Hingham, MA and Kenneth and wife Deb of Naugatuck, CT; and her daughter Ann Marie Broccolo and husband John of Westerly. Mary is also survived by her two sisters, Evelyn Servidio and Connie Federico of Westerly; many nieces and nephews; and her friend and caregiver Carol Cherenzia.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Friday at 10am at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High Street, Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck.
Donations may be made to L&M Wound Center, c/o Office of Development, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, 365 Montauk Avenue, New London, CT 06320 or to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904 in Mary's memory.
