Obituary for Marcia Jones Flowers

Marcia Jones  Flowers
Marcia Jones Flowers, 70, wife of Bernard Flowers, of Collins Rd., Ashaway, passed away at L&M Hospital in New London on Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

Born in Westerly, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Lillian Jones.

Marcia worked as a L.P.N. at The Westerly Hospital for over 30 years. A former Chairperson for the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation, she served on the Tribal Council for years. In addition, she was the geologist for the tribe. She tirelessly led the tribe’s effort for federal recognition and due to her dedication and contribution the tribe was able to gain the preliminary positive decision for their long sought federal recognition.

In addition to her husband, she leaves four daughters, Tracy Johnson of Mystic, Tina Carter-Lang and Alicia Flowers both of New London, and Heather Hadley and her husband Richard, III of Ewing, NJ. Marcia also leaves two brothers, Harry Jones, Jr. of Norwich and Phil Jones of Mystic; two sisters, Gail Jones Littleton of Richmond, VA and Sheri Jones of Niantic; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly on Saturday from 11am – 1pm, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1pm in the funeral home. Burial will be private. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
