Obituary for Jacqueline O'Farrell (Curley)

Jacqueline O'Farrell (Curley)
Jacqueline Curley O’Farrell, 80, of Pawcatuck died peacefully June 13, 2016.

Born in Chester, PA, to the late Walter and Lena Curley, Jackie moved to Pawcatuck at a young age and made her longtime home on Courtland Street.

A graduate of Stonington High School, Jackie attended Willimantic State Teachers College (now Eastern Connecticut State University), where she met her future husband, Robert. She graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.

Jackie and Bob were married in July 1959. She taught for a combined 15 years at North Stonington Elementary School and West Broad Street School. After putting her teaching career on hold to raise her four children, Jackie returned to the classroom at St. Michael School in Pawcatuck where she primarily taught fourth grade. She loved her time at St. Michael, cherishing moments and memories from her career there, including the friendships she formed with her fellow teachers.

Along with her husband, Jackie volunteered countless hours at Pawcatuck Little League. She was recognized for her efforts in 1991 when she was presented with the Distinguished Service Award, at the time becoming the first husband and wife to each win the award.
Upon retirement from St. Michael, she very much enjoyed her time working first at Live and Learn, an educational store in Westerly, and then at Family Dollar on Granite Street.

Jackie is survived by her children, Thomas and his wife Teresa, of Groton; Lynn Vossler and her husband John, of Pawcatuck; and Michael and his wife Renee, of Norwich. Jackie is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert; her sister Patricia Keane; and her son Timothy, whose wife, Sue, resides in Preston.

The family would like to thank the staff at Apple Rehab in Watch Hill and Hope and Hospice of Rhode Island for the outstanding care they provided Jackie in her final days. In addition, the family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Dotolo for his years of care and commitment.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 16 at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 17, at St. Mary’s Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
