Obituary for Patrcia K Martin

Patricia K. Martin, 57, of Westerly, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, after a long and valiant struggle with multiple chronic illnesses at Yale New Haven Hospital, the caring staff, her son and sister by her side.

Patricia, or Trish as she was called by her family and friends, was born at Westerly Hospital, the daughter of Albert Martin and the late Valerie Martin. She grew up in Ashaway and graduated from Chariho High School in 1981. She had worked at Imperial Wallcoverings, Paragon, and Foxwoods Resort Casino before health issues took their toll.

Her family and friends will remember Trish fondly for her sense of humor and her love of fun, always bringing a laugh at family gatherings. She enjoyed flea markets and her zest for life showed in her creativity, skillfully taking up, at different times, painting, cake decorating, knitting and other arts. Trish also belonged to The Church at Westerly and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and helping with community events.
We will remember, too, the strength and courage she showed battling her illness. She had an unbreakable spirit, entertaining the staff at Yale with her wit and good humor to the very end. Her nurses said she was an inspiration to all those that cared for her and she left a mark upon their hearts that will stay with them for some time to come.

Trish leaves behind her son Anthony Martin, her father Albert Martin, sister Denise Doughty and brother Patrick Albert Martin, her nieces and nephews, Valerie, Rachel, and Michael Doughty, and her bff (best furry friend) her little gray cat, Girlie. Patricia was predeceased by her mother Valerie Martin and brother Patrick Alan Martin.

She will be greatly missed by all those that loved and knew her. We grieve for our loss, but we find comfort knowing that Trish is in a better place, at peace with the One that called her home.

The family would like to thank and extend their appreciation to the entire staff at Yale New Haven Hospital for their compassion and great care of Patricia over the last several months. A thank you as well to all those that have kept Trish in their thoughts and prayers these past few months.

Due to Covid restrictions, there will be a small private service. We will have a celebration of her life at a later date and all who loved her will be welcome. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, Westerly is in care of the arrangements. For online condolences www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
